The story follows a stuffed rabbit made of velveteen who longs to become real through the love of the boy who owns him. In the nursery, he learns from the Skin Horse, the wisest toy, about the magic of being loved, which makes a toy real. The rabbit faces challenges, including being forgotten in favor of other toys and nearly being disposed of when the boy gets sick. However, through the boy's love, the rabbit is eventually transformed into a real rabbit by the Nursery Magic Fairy. He returns to the boy's garden to watch him, signifying that love makes one real
